What is an authenticator app?
An authenticator app is a mobile application that allows you to generate a time-based One-Time Password (OTP) that is used when signing into your account. This allows for two-factor authentication which improves account security. These apps can store codes for multiple accounts and services, and are generally free to use.
How do I use an authenticator app?
- Download or use an existing mobile authenticator app (Ex: Microsoft Authenticator, Duo Mobile, etc.) and create an account on the app.
- If you are setting up a new Coordinator account, select the Add (+) button on your authenticator app to open the camera.
- Scan the QR code shown on the Coordinator "Set Up Verification" screen. You will be prompted to save the new account name. Choose a recognizable account name that will allow you to distinguish between multiple possible Coordinator accounts.
- Enter the 6-digit verification code shown for the corresponding account name.
Troubleshooting
"Incorrect verification code" error
- Since verification codes expire after 30 seconds, ensure that you are typing in the most recent code that is visible on your authenticator app.
- If you have multiple Coordinator accounts with the same username, check that you are not viewing the code of the wrong account.
- If your code isn't working, make sure the time and date on your phone are set to update automatically. Authenticator codes are time-based, and an out-of-sync clock can lead to invalid codes.
What if I lose access to my device or authenticator app?
- Submit a support ticket to reset your MFA.
